Professor Hai-qing Gao has been engaged in the clinical, teaching and research of cardiovascular diseases and geriatric diseases for more than 30 years. His research direction focuses on etiological research and primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease, the pathogenesis and prevention of hypertension, the mechanism and intervention measures of atherosclerosis. He has undertaken more than 10 projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the International cooperation project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and the Natural Science Foundation of Shandong Province. He has published more than 100 papers in professional journals at home and abroad, among which many papers have been included by SCI. He edited 7 books, participated in the compilation of 5 monographs, and won 6 provincial and ministerial awards for scientific research achievements and 1 utility model patent. In 1998, Professor Hai-qing Gao established the first master's program in geriatrics in Shandong Province and opened the first geriatrics course in Shandong University. He has supervised one postdoctoral fellow, more than 10 doctoral students, and more than 30 master students. He has cultivated outstanding geriatrician for major hospitals in Shangdong province and in China.
